Test Day Procedures

Step-by-step instructions for administering the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9 will be available in the Supervisor's Manual for each assessment, which will be mailed to test coordinators. The manuals include:

  • The directions proctors must read — without deviation — to students
  • A standard section timing chart

Administering Tests with Accommodations

The Supervisor's Manual for the test will also include instructions for proctors administering the tests with accommodations. You’ll find a section timing chart for extended time testing.

Students with disabilities taking the PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10 must have approval from the College Board to test with accommodations. If these students use accommodations without College Board approval, their test scores will be canceled.

Students with disabilities taking the PSAT 8/9 do not need approval from the College Board to test with accommodations, but if they need to use nonstandard test formats, their school must order these before the ordering deadline.

Test Day Problems and School Closings

If you encounter problems on test day, refer to the Supervisor’s Manual and the Supervisor’s Irregularity Report, included in your test material shipment. Irregularities can be environmental or involve mistiming, student behavior, or test materials.

Schools that close on their registered test day due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather or building disruptions, widespread illness, etc., should contact the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, or PSAT 8/9 program immediately to make other testing arrangements.
