The redesigned SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and PSAT 10, parts of the new SAT Suite of Assessments, offers colleges more-detailed profiles about student accomplishments and strengths to inform strategic recruiting efforts and admission decisions.
Recruiting Power with College Board Search
Users of all College Board Search services will benefit from the tighter content alignment — and common score scale — of the redesigned SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and PSAT 10. Learn more about the impact of the redesign on College Board Search.
Richer Student Data
Effective September 2015, the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and PSAT 10 questionnaires will collect new student information, which will enhance recruitment. For example, students will be able to self-identify as more than one ethnicity or race.
More Insight Through New Scores
Admission processes will be enhanced by the new score scale and added scores of the SAT Suite. Subscores and cross-test scores indicate how students tested in specific skill and knowledge areas. For example, they provide insight into how successfully prospects and applicants:
- Apply reading, writing, and math knowledge and skills to answer questions with science content
- Solve algebra problems
- Understand words in context
Diverse and Ready for College
The SAT Suite helps increase access to and readiness for college.

To complement our work with National Merit Scholarship Corporation and further remove barriers to college and career success for students across the country, we recently added new partnerships with scholarship providers.
Districts and states that take part in the SAT School Day program increase the number of students who take the SAT, which increases the potential for richer, more diverse campuses.
Improved College Readiness
The SAT Suite of Assessments, which includes the new PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10 in addition to the PSAT/NMSQT and SAT, is a tightly aligned set of assessments that work together to help educators monitor growth over time and support improved college readiness for all students. The PSAT 8/9 sets a readiness baseline while the PSAT 10 and PSAT/NMSQT provide opportunities to check in and pinpoint areas for intervention.
The SAT Suite’s test design is based on a body of recent research (.pdf/3.12MB) on the skills and knowledge needed for college success.
